Tips for Minimizing Daily Stress — Wherever You May Be!

There are a lot of people who are working at home now and most probably do not have an ergonomic desk set up. Even if you do, your muscles can still get sore and achy from sitting at a desk all day. Whether at the office or working from home, it is so important to get up and stretch during the day. I've recently heard of a company in Milwaukee that makes stretching at work mandatory, and it is working! People at this company report feeling better and less stressed simply because they are taking the time to stretch. Research shows that stretching at work may reduce pain by up to 72%! (Tip: Click this link for some great stretches to do at your desk.)

Relaxing your diaphragm is another great relaxation technique. This is part of the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) that we offer. The diaphragm is a muscle and can get tight, just like any other muscle. This tension can cause problems when the diaphragm needs to move down so that our lungs can fill with air. If our diaphragm is tight, then it won't be able to move down as far as it needs to to and our lungs cannot get the adequate amount of oxygen that our body needs. A tight diaphragm will also constrict the blood flow to and from our heart. Our blood supply goes though our diaphragm, so tension here will also impact blood flow. Therefore, nothing in our body will work as well as it should. The upper abdominal work of Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy will help reduce stress, and increase blood and air supply to your body.

(Note: We offer full ATMAT services onsite, which also include training in self-care techniques that allow you to continue the work at home. Due to current social distancing efforts, we are also temporarily authorized to teach the self-care in a 30-minute telemedicine format. This allows patients to learn the upper abdominal techniques without needing to visit our office in person.)

For those wishing to continue with in-person sessions, you can still enjoy massage, cupping, infant massage instruction, and the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy onsite! Please know that we are doing all we can to sanitize the space frequently and have prioritized patient and provider safety (more info here). The treatment rooms, front desk and waiting area, door handles and bathroom are cleaned between every client with every use. Patient arrival times are also staggered to avoid additional interactions and promote distancing. I hope you are staying safe and healthy and look forward to seeing you soon!
